Employment Services
An on-site Employment Coordinator at the Opportunity Center assists clients who are looking for work by interviewing them to understand their skills, interests, and experience and then connecting them to local work opportunities. Job opportunities come from various sources, including churches, businesses, restaurants, and retailers. Clients interested in agricultural work are connected to local or out-of-state opportunities. Several out-of-town employers also access our Employment Office to offer jobs to clients.
In addition to job placement, the Employment Coordinator also provides employment counseling and case management to our homeless clients and helps individuals who are working to obtain the proper clothing required for the job, access transportation to get to and from their work place, and obtain necessary certifications. Those who are interested in going back to school or advancing their level of education are referred to our Education Program. Others, interested in obtaining specific training, are referred to the El Paso Community College, Center for Employment Training, and other community agencies for work training programs to better qualify them for employment opportunities.
The Opportunity Center Employment Services program is an integral part of empowering homeless clients to re-enter the workforce, gain confidence, and work towards self-sufficiency.
