HomeRun for the Homeless 5K Run/Fun Walk and Kids’ Dash, our signature fundraiser event, is possible thanks to the support of our valued sponsors, participants, and donors and has quickly become a recognized event in our community. This race is a unique partnership between the El Paso Chihuahuas Baseball team and the Opportunity Center for the Homeless.

All the money raised during the event benefits all the programs offered in our 24-Hour Resource Centers and our permanent and transitional living facilities. This year, all the funds will help add twenty permanent beds for homeless women in the El Paso community through the Women’s Resource Center expansion.

Our signature fundraiser event began in 2014 as an engagement class project of Leadership Class XXXVI, an El Paso Chamber program.

The goals are to fund-raise and increase awareness for our region’s services provided by the Opportunity Center for the Homeless.

This isn’t just any event—it’s our biggest and only fundraiser of the year, taking place at the perfect time as summer comes to a close. Plus, it’s the only race in the city that starts and finishes inside the vibrant Southwest University Park, making it a truly unique experience.
Whether you’re a kid over 3, an adult, or bringing the whole family, your 5K Race/Fun Walk and Kids’ Dash registration comes with awesome perks. Enjoy complimentary tickets to a Chihuahuas Baseball Game and a stylish event T-shirt, all on us!
The race starts at the park’s entrance on Durango Street and concludes with a triumphant finish inside the ballpark. Our 3.1-mile flat course is a favorite among participants, especially competitive runners looking to beat their personal bests. You’ll also get a chance to see some of our amazing 24-hour Resource Centers and our permanent and transitional living centers along the route.
We love to celebrate our runners! Awards will be given to the top 3 male and female finishers in each age bracket: 12 & under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and over. Don’t forget to bring your team spirit, as we’ll also be awarding the largest and most spirited team!
