Celebrating 30 Years of Compassion and Community
30 years ago, amidst the chilling winter nights of El Paso, on January 3, 1994 the Opportunity Center for the Homeless opened its doors with a single purpose: to provide warmth, shelter, and hope to those in need. Today, as we reflect on our journey, we do so with hearts full of gratitude and a deep sense of pride.
After experiencing homelessness himself, our founder, U.S. Army Veteran, Ray Tullius opened the doors to what has stood as a beacon of hope, a haven for those facing the harsh realities of homelessness.
For three decades and through every challenge and triumph, his commitment to our community has remained unwavering. And we’ve been privileged to witness countless stories of resilience, courage, and transformation.
As we mark this incredible milestone, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all who have supported us along the way. To our dedicated staff, tireless volunteers, generous donors, and the resilient individuals and families we serve—you are the heart and soul of our mission.
Together, we’ve weathered storms, celebrated victories, and forged bonds that transcend walls and barriers. Our doors have always been—and will always remain—open to anyone in need.
Because at the Opportunity Center, compassion knows no bounds.
Here’s to 30 years of compassion, community, and unwavering commitment. Here’s to the next chapter of our journey, where we will continue to stand as a beacon of hope, a source of strength, and a testament to the power of love in action.
Join us for an Open House celebrating 30 years of hope, 30 years in action on Friday, April 26, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 1208 Myrtle Avenue in central El Paso.
